Reporting to the Kitchen Department Head, the Kitchen Assistant Department Head provides hands‑on support to the Kitchen Department’s daily operation and management to ensure that it is functioning under good conditions.
T&T Supermarkets has been a favorite Asian grocery store in Canada for over 30 years and has recently announced multiple new store locations in the United States. Our expansion into the US offers great opportunities within our flagship store, opened in 2024 in Bellevue, Washington in the Marketplace at Factoria, spanning 76,000 sq. ft. and standing as the largest Asian specialty supermarket in Washington state.
We have established our regional office in the greater Los Angeles area to grow T&T Supermarket’s vendor base with American food suppliers.
You Will- Provide hands‑on support and assistance to the Department Head in the following aspects:
- Manage department performance and attain departmental goals
- Manage and supervise daily operations and staff performance
- Provide coaching, on‑the‑job training, shadowing, and guidance to department staff
- Supervise Kitchen Deli Assistants, ensure fair distribution of work and strict adherence to daily checklists
- Promote teamwork and create an inclusive working environment
- Be familiar with product ordering, its process, and execution
- Follow the company’s pricing principle and partner closely with the pricing strategies of the Merchandising Department
- Conduct quality and inventory control, and be responsible for the cleanliness, hygiene, equipment and tool maintenance, and workplace safety of the department
- Oversee product quality, food safety, freshness and ensure FIFO is strictly practiced within the department
- Maintain and update UPC pricing and verify that product labeling is properly done
- Ensure (BBQ, Hot Foods, Dim Sum, Sushi, and/or other items) are properly packaged and displayed
- Lead by example by performing all hands‑on duties required in the Kitchen Department
- Good communication skills in English; proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is advantageous
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred, demonstrating leadership capabilities
- Basic understanding of profit and loss management, and ability to interpret data and market information
- Good computer skills in MS Office
- Well versed with workplace health and safety protocols
- Has a keen interest and knowledge in merchandise management and implementation, including inventory control and promotional strategies
- Familiar with relevant tools and equipment, and able to interpret product labels accurately
- Great organization, problem‑solving, interpersonal, and customer‑service skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
