Software Java Engineer

Job Summary

Pay Pal Consumer Onboarding Engineering team is looking for a strong backend software engineer to design and implement backend services that power the consumer onboarding user experiences on mobile platforms and work closely with cross‑functional and vertical teams.

• Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system.
• Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow.
• Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program, or service objectives.
• Proactively improves existing structures & processes.
• Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity, risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems.
• Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions.
• Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor.
• Trusted to represent Pay Pal, Inc. to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations.

• 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Leads backend development for the team by working with functional leads and architects.
• Participates in the full development lifecycle, including design, coding, automated testing, and releases.
• Acts as a problem solver and has a drive to get results.
• Finds and fixes performance, scalability, and other live issues in a time‑critical environment.
• Prototypes ideas quickly using cutting‑edge technologies.
• Communicates effectively to peers and leadership on tasks and projects.
• Collaborates closely with product, architecture and other cross‑functional teams to deliver compelling solutions.
• Has a passion for code quality, maintainability and testability.

• 8+ years software development experience (or Master’s with 6+ years of experience).
• Competent in designing and building scalable Graph
  
  QL services & REST APIs.
• Solid understanding of web & mobile applications stack, SOA & message queues.
• Proficient with Java, Java Spring Boot, JUnit, SQL, Maven & Git.
• Experience with JavaScript and Node.js is a plus.
• B.S. or equivalent degree in Computer Science.

Base pay range for San Jose, California: $176,500 – $262,350 annually. No other locations are assigned to this requisition currently. Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation.
