Intern - Embedded Systems & Artificial Intelligence

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers with design, development, and optimization of embedded software systems and AI models, focusing on resource‑constrained hardware.
• Support AI model inference and training on embedded platforms, using decentralized and distributed training methodologies.
• Maintain the software stack, providing support for both inference and training processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve product performance.
• Monitor and analyze equipment behavior using AI‑driven approaches to detect anomalies in utility and metering systems.

• Enrolled in a related degree program; preference for hardware, firmware, electrical, or advanced software coursework.
• Exposure to embedded systems and intermediate programming skills in C, C++, and Python for embedded platforms.
• Strong mathematical skills, including linear algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.
• Ability to work onsite at Itron’s San Jose office.
• Professional workplace communication skills.
• Previous academic or work experience on projects related to AI and/or embedded systems.
• Understanding of machine learning principles.

Location:

San Jose, California | Pay: $25–$57.69 per hour (full-time hours for summer, potential part‑time into fall).
