Base pay range$70.00/hr - $80.00/hr

Responsibilities- 80%+ hands-on coding:
Heavy individual contribution role focused on: - Writing test automation code
- Building automation infrastructure
- Evaluating and possibly replacing existing frameworks
- Work closely with QA Lead (Antonius)
- Collaborate with developers, including distinguished engineers
- Identify untestable code and propose changes
- Debugging & Issue Resolution:
- Dig deep into issues found by automation
- Raise detailed JIRA tickets or fix code if within scope
- Informal leadership:
- Not a team lead role
- Expected to mentor junior engineers or guide best practices
- Influence the testability and quality of the codebase
- Years of
Experience:
~8+ years preferred - Must understand trade-offs and system design
- Ideal if candidate has previously designed or improved automation infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with:
- Jetpack Compose (JPC)
- Model-View-Intent (MVI) or similar (MVVM/MVP okay, MVI preferred)
- Espresso or other standard Android testing frameworks
- Bonus:
Ability to build custom testing libraries
- Primary language:
Kotlin - Must be able to read and work with Kotlin
- Experience writing production or test code in Kotlin is strongly preferred
- Other acceptable tools/languages:
- Python okay for automation (but Kotlin still needed)
- AI integration:
Should be aware of AI trends in test automation - Not necessarily an AI expert, but should know how to leverage AI tools for code/test generation
- Remote position
- Preferred time zone: PST (±3 hours)
- EST-based candidates okay if working PST hours
- Team structure currently:
- Possibly a few junior engineers
- This is the first key hire for automation
- Potential to convert to FTE:
Yes, based on performance
- Knows trade-offs in test strategy, infra, and tooling
- Can build, debug, document, and evangelize test automation
- Communicates well and can push back respectfully when needed
- Adaptive, with good learning ability if not fluent in Kotlin or internal tools
- Heavy focus on hardware/firmware testing
- e.g., automotive, IoT testing, or serial port-based testing
- Candidates unfamiliar with Android app testing libraries or architecture
- Published work on automation or testing (e.g., books, blog posts)
- Demonstrated ownership of automation frameworks at scale
- AI/ML-assisted testing experience
