Senior Interoperability Engineer (Canada or US, part‑time, remote)

Part‑time
Our client is a healthcare technology company building a new enterprise platform focused on upstream workflow and revenue cycle challenges for health systems. The product is in stealth, with a working prototype and active conversations underway with prospective customers. At this stage, how quickly and reliably they can connect to live Epic environments matters as much to those conversations as the prototype itself.
We're looking for a Senior Integration Engineer / Interoperability Engineer to serve as a trusted advisor on how the client's platform will integrate with live Epic environments. This is an advisory engagement; there's a working prototype but no production integrations yet, so the value you bring is judgment, not throughput. You'll help the team think through HL7 v2 and FHIR R4 interface strategy, weigh interface‑engine options, anticipate what health‑system IT will demand, and pressure‑test the integration timelines the business is building its speed‑to‑launch story around.
As the platform matures, the expectation is that this role grows into hands‑on, end‑to‑end integration ownership, but that's not what's on the table today.
This is a short‑term initial advisory engagement, with potential for future fractional engagements as the product matures. The role is part‑time – roughly 5‑10 hours a week for now – fully remote, and asynchronous. Candidates can be based anywhere in Canada or the United States.
Responsibilities- Advise on how to design interfaces connecting third‑party systems into live Epic environments.
- Help shape the client's approach to HL7 v2 and FHIR R4 interface development.
- Recommend and help evaluate an interface engine such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, or Corepoint.
- Map out the path from architecture and sandbox design through to production go‑live.
- Help the team anticipate health‑system IT credentialing, testing, and go‑live processes.
- Advise on realistic integration timelines to support the client's speed‑to‑launch goals.
- 7+ years of experience in healthcare systems integration or interoperability engineering.
- Hands‑on experience connecting third‑party systems into live Epic environments; production, not just sandbox.
- Fluency in HL7 v2 and FHIR R4.
- Direct experience with at least one interface engine:
Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, or Corepoint. - A track record of shepherding an integration from design through to production go‑live.
- Comfort working through health‑system credentialing, testing, and security review processes.
- Cerner experience (a significant plus).
- Experience in a startup or fast‑moving environment working alongside enterprise health systems.
- Completed background checks will be required before the start date if you are selected as a winning candidate.
While we strive to respond to all applicants, please understand that due to the high volume of applications we receive, providing individual feedback or responses to every candidate may not be feasible. Rest assured that your application will be carefully reviewed and considered. We appreciate your understanding and interest in joining our team.
