About this Opportunity
We'relooking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our engineering organization on an interim basis for approximately 12to 14 months, covering our Director of Engineering's parental leave.
You'llstep into the full scope of that role: owning our technical architecture, setting engineering direction, and managing our software engineering team, while working closely with the CEOto keep our product roadmap on track. This is a term role with real ownership from day one, not a caretaker position. We need someone who can ramp quickly, make decisions, and keep the team moving without a long runway to get up to speed.
Core Responsibilities
Building the Product (~50%)
- Write code.Play a hands-on role in building The Rounds platform, writing, reviewing, and shipping production code alongside the team.
- Shape the architecture.Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and architecture discussions, and contribute directly to technical decisions.
- Keep things running.Debug production issues and helpidentifynew technologies, tools, and design patterns that improve our products.
- Build with our stack.Workacrossmodern web technologies;experience with Go, React, PostgreSQLandAWSisa strong asset.
- Keep the platform solid and compliant.Ensure Dev Ops, CI/CD, backup, and platform recovery practices meet a high bar for reliability, and that development meets applicable privacy and security standards.
Leading the Team (~50%)
- Develop the team.Lead, coach, and mentor engineers through regular feedback, performance management, and career development.
- Run delivery.Own sprint execution, agile delivery, and roadmap planning, and collaborate cross-functionallywithCS, Sales, QA, and other business stakeholders.
- Hire well.Grow the team by attracting, hiring, onboarding, andretainingstrong, diverse engineers.
- Manage the team.Provide day‑to‑day leadership and oversight of the software engineering team, including HR responsibilities, OKRs, and training plans.
- Bridge technical and business.Communicate technical trade-offs and roadmap decisions clearly to the CEO, leadership, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Handle the business side.Manage relationships with third-party service providers and technology partners, and support strategic initiatives such as staff planning, budgeting, and IP/SR&ED submissions.
