Software Applications Engineer

Responsibilities

Max Linear is seeking a Staff Software Applications Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will focus on the following:

• Work with local customers and support their product designs with components from Max Linear’s Data Center Connectivity division on the following products: high-speed PAM4 DSPs and Transimpedance Amplifies (TIAs), used in IMDD optical modules, Linear Receive Optics (LRO) modules, Active Electrical Cables (AECs), electrical retimers and similar products requiring high-speed SERDES interfaces
• Support Max Linear DSP integration into customer products
• Address customer technical questions beyond software
• Write and support example microcontroller code to interface with Max Linear DSP APIs
• Collaborate on GUI definition and/or development
• Develop conference and customer demonstrations of Max Linear DSP capabilities
• Optimize SERDES and optical links through DSP signal processing block configuration
• Some travel around California and occasionally Asia

• Proficient in programming languages C, C++, and Python
• Knowledge of latest OIF’s Common Management Interface Specification (CMIS)
• Experience programming microcontrollers such as STMicroelectronics STM
  32 series
• Knowledge of I2C and SPI interfaces and developing drivers
• Experience with optimizing PAM4 signals for receiving and transmitting
• Experience with configuring and coding for RTOS, GUI development, and signal processing experience preferred
• Experience working with lab equipment such as BERTs, DCAs, and traffic analyzers preferred
• Knowledge of SERDES interfaces, signal processing blocks, and performance metrics preferred
• Knowledge of and writing control code for EML and MZ based modulators preferred
• BS in Electrical Engineering or related +5 years of experience, or MS +3 years of experience, or Ph.D.

Max Linear has a Total Compensation philosophy which includes base salary and annual discretionary bonus eligibility and many positions also include stock-based compensation.

Max Linear's good faith estimate starting base salary range is: $115,000 to $170,000

The actual starting base salary will be determined by the match to certain role-related criteria such as educational degree(s) or equivalent, relevant work experience, skillset needed for the role, and geographic location; this is not an all-inclusive list as some roles may require unique skills or experience.
