You will operate district vehicles in a professional and courteous manner while maintaining schedules, adhering to traffic and safety regulations, and supporting the smooth operation of school and department activities. You understand that every trip contributes to the success and safety of our students, staff, and community.
As a Van Driver, you will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Safely operating district vans and vehicles to transport students, staff, mail, and materials between school sites and district facilities.
- Conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
- Adhering to all traffic laws, district policies, and safety regulations at all times.
- Maintaining vehicle cleanliness and readiness, including fueling, minor upkeep, and organizing cargo.
- Communicating effectively with dispatch, administrators, and staff to ensure timely and accurate deliveries or transport.
- Supporting district events and operations, such as inter-site deliveries, field trips, and emergency transportation needs.
- Demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and reliability in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
What you need for this position:
- Completion of 10th grade or equivalent
- Valid California ClassBLicense or Permit
- Valid Commercial Medical Certificate
- Valid First Aid certification (Red Cross, EMSA or CHP)
- Certified DMV Record completed within last 30 days. To obtain this submit Request for Own Driver License/Identification Card or Vehicle/Vessel Registration Record to DMV and be sure to check the box at the top to "Certify the record as a true copy of record". Click this link to obtain the form:
- Successful completion of San José Unified van driving training program (you may be invited to participate after submitting your application)

- Note:
Special Driving Certificate to drive a Type 1 school bus with an automatic transmission must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
