, founded in 1948, is a leading metal distributor with seven locations in California and Arizona. We are seeking a Warehouse Lead to play a significant role in the future growth at our San Jose, CA location.

With little or no supervision and direction:

• Knowledge of materials and material locations.
• Assist in maintaining inventory on consumables.
• Safely locate, identify, and pull material indicated on work orders using appropriate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, side loader, and scissor lifts.
• Verify the size of materials and products with calipers, a micrometer, tape measures, and the established color-coding system.
• Verify that pulled material meets or exceeds company quality standards.
• Follow all established company safety rules and foster a culture of safety.
• Train others and ensure that all associates who work or enter the warehouse follow company safety rules.
• Document all materials pulled using the IMS process and use the proper tagging process.
• Understand and identify
  
  Heat and Lot numbers and handle related materials accordingly; keep materials of the same grade together.
• Know and apply proper packaging procedures for different types of materials.
• Follow through on work orders to ensure correct material is pulled and processed with any special instructions.
• Interact and communicate with customers and fellow associates in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner at all times.
• Maintain a clean warehouse environment with proper housekeeping, coordinated between shifts.
• Assist in safety investigations and documentation of incidents, including near-misses and accidents involving workers, drivers, customers, or equipment.
• Conduct brief safety coaching sessions (about three minutes) on occasion, at the direction of the Shift Supervisor.
• Process ORD paperwork, including material certificates (MTR), certificates of compliance (COCs), and any other customer requests.
• Train associates in all aspects of warehouse operations.
• Identify and properly handle brokered items, customer-dedicated materials, and buy-outs.
• Read and follow work orders to ensure correct material is loaded on Company vehicles.
• Assist other departments and associates with stocking materials.
• Fill in for shift supervisors on a temporary basis when needed.
• Update material locations in the IMS system when materials are moved.
• Efficiently handle sheet material and operate cutting equipment safely.
• Inspect product to meet quality requirements and customer requests.
• Disseminate critical information regarding safety concerns, associate issues, customer service, and equipment matters to management and team members promptly.
• Conduct and document monthly safety inspections.
• Understand equipment limits and coordinate production needs to maximize saw usage.
• Assist supervisor with equipment usage and needs.
• Inspect incoming material to verify it meets company standards.
• Process material returns and receive inbound material from third-party delivery services (e.g., UPS, Fed Ex, Freight).
• Coordinate production, housekeeping, special projects, and stocking to support the shift supervisor.
• Ensure daily checklists for processing equipment, forklifts, side loaders, order pickers, and trucks are properly completed and submitted on time.
• Carry out the policies outlined in the associate handbook for all warehouse associates on all shifts.
• Maintain responsibility for significant safety activities, including maintaining a safe work environment, training new associates on hazards and safety rules, providing ongoing lifting technique training, and enforcing safety program rules and practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Proficient math, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Proficiency operating modern desktop computers, software, and office equipment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and IMS business systems.
• Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
• Safe operation of company vehicles and adherence to vehicle laws and safety considerations.
• Operate vehicles and loading equipment such as forklifts, side loaders, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, and overhead cranes.
• Ability to use basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometer, tape measures) and convert between metric and English units.
• Safe operation of power equipment including various saws and shears.
