The Person al Fitness and Wellness (PFW) Teacher and Athletic Coach garet’s Episcopal School plays an integral role in advancing the physical, social, and emotional development of students. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging wellness instruction in the classroom and providing leadership and mentorship in the school’s athletic program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for health and fitness education, promote lifelong wellness habits, and inspire student-athletes through a commitment to character, community, and excellence.
Instructionand Curriculum Delivery (PFW)
- Teach PFW courses using inclusive, age appropriate, and research-based strategies that align with departmental curriculum and school wide wellness goals.
- Create a positive, supportive, and structured classroom environment that promotes safety, participation, and student growth.
- Foster in students an understanding of physical literacy, lifelong fitness, and wellness practices.
- Incorporate strength and conditioning, mobility, cardiovascular fitness, and health education principles into instruction.
- Serve as a head or assistant coach within the school’s athletic program based on institutional needs and candidate expertise.
- Create practice plans, provide individualized instruction, and promote a team culture rooted in sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth.
- Collaborate with fellow coaches, trainers, and administrators to ensure student safety and appropriate developmental progression.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and professional community members to build program support and alignment.
- Assist in maintaining equipment, managing rosters, coordinating travel logistics, and upholding league and school policies.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, and professional community members to foster program support and community involvement.
- Uphold the School’s Episcopal identity and values of balance and breadth, character, community, and high expectations.
- Engage in school events and demonstrate a commitment to the broader school community.
- Model integrity, positivity, and ethical behavior in all interactions.
- Participate in school events.
- Participate in professional development and maintain required certifications.
- Attend all required department and league meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of coaching and/or teaching experience.
- Ability to instruct, motivate, and supervise student athletes in a professional and supportive manner.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, studentcentered mindset.
- Master’s degree in a related field and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (SCSC) or equivalent credential (e.g. NSCA, NASM, USAW).
- Experience with student athlete wellness programming or strength training.
- College coaching or playing experience.
- Salary Range: $71,000 to $84,000

The PFW Teacher and Athletic Coach must possess the physical capacity to actively demonstrate and instruct a variety of athletic movements, including strength, agility, and cardiovascular exercises. The position requires the ability to move continuously throughout the school day, including in classroom, gymnasium, and outdoor settings. Candidates must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 pounds and remain active for extended periods.
Visual and auditory acuity are essential for supervising students and maintaining a safe instructional environment across varying weather conditions and sound levels.
