Overview:
Complete oversight of BME operations for large, complex sites and/or multiple sites to ensure service program efficiency and to satisfy the equipment support needs of the company. The purpose of the BME Sr. Manager position is to develop, coordinate, and expand the BME program to ensure all aspects of service (internal and external) for lab instrumentation and general lab equipment satisfy quality and regulatory requirements and service needs for each lab, enabling operations to run efficiently and with quality.
The Bioinformatics Operations group supports, hones, and executes the processes defined by our Engineering and Lab Operations groups with emphasis on compliance and continuous improvement in a regulated CAP/CLIA environment. The team balances innovation, standards, and quality with practical application. This position is based in San Juan Capistrano, CA and may be on site or hybrid – working on site at least 2-3 days per week.
Responsibilities- Support production day-to-day operations, quickly pivoting to incidents and requests
- Monitor, execute, and improve sequence analysis workflows and automation
- Track, troubleshoot and mitigate issues in processing production samples to meet Turnaround Times (TAT) and SLAs
- Plan and develop solutions to recurring issues for incorporation into development
- Generate, wrangle, merge and analyze varied data sets
- Use RESTful APIs linked to LIMS, AWS job runners, and other systems for data processing and execution
- Design and perform validation, testing, and deployment of systems to standardize processes across Quest Diagnostics labs
- Design and perform analytical validation for new genomic testing products
- Write and maintain production documentation for compliance and supportability
- Produce charts and visualizations for dashboards and data-driven testing
- Support interface, integration, and testing projects
- Follow Software Development Life Cycle documentation procedures
- Collaborate with team members and support the group
- Accept input on solutions from colleagues and teams
- Availability for on-call support
The ideal candidate will have a history of using bioinformatic technical skills to deliver accurate and timely results.
Required:
- 5 years of experience using formal programming and scripting languages
- 5 years of experience on a Linux command-line to process, parse, and merge data
- 3 years of experience with web services and API communications (REST, SOAP, etc)
- 3 years of experience in a distributed cloud HPC environment
- Knowledge of genomics, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatics including FASTQ, BAM, VCF
- Experience supporting production-grade software
- Experience with source control in development, testing, and production
- Experience communicating technical results and data
- Experience working with APIs to pull/query data
Preferred:
- Automated testing experience; CI/CD experience
- Knowledge of CAP documentation requirements or regulated environments

Education:
- Required:
B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field. - Preferred: MSc/PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics
