Position

Responsibilities and Duties:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for profit and loss of assigned projects

Seek and acquire project opportunities for Columbia Electric, Inc.

Estimate and propose change orders on projects to Owners (subject to review by Manager)

Provide guidance and management to Team Members

Serve as the primary technical and business resource for any projects assigned

Provide plans, specifications, scopes of work, permits, architectural & structural details to Superintendents and field Foreman

Work with Superintendent to ensure all parties are aware of the goals and objectives set for each project assigned

SAFETY:

Report all safety incidents immediately.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, company, and client safety requirements.

Coordinate with Superintendents to maintain safe work practices, proper PPE, and traffic control.

Ensure personnel have the required training, certifications, and equipment to perform assigned work.

ESTIMATING DUTIES:

Identify changes in scope in a timely fashion, price the changes in scope of work, and submit pricing to the Client in a form acceptable and easily understood by the Client

Responsible for the entire T&M pricing cycle:

  • Set up T&M work in Enterprise Software
  • Communicate direction to proceed and scope of work to Field and Superintendent in writing
  • Ensure T&M tags are being turned in weekly, at a minimum. If not, get Superintendent involved.
  • Review T&M tags and, if correct, forward to Finance for Pricing
  • Submit pricing to Client via a COR and ensure Enterprise Software is updated

Monitor the aging on all outstanding COR pricing

Negotiate settlement of all CORs with Client in a timely fashion – request assistance from your manager if unsure about the approach

Submit and manage change order (COR) rejection claims in a timely manner to not forfeit rights

Monitor and drive Owner Change Orders for outstanding CORs

PURCHASING DUTIES:

Verify all Subcontractor and Vendor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness and re-quote, if required

Work with the Purchasing Dept. to write and issue all needed purchase orders and subcontracts

Ensure storage is available for large material purchases and specify the delivery locations for each assigned project

Manage, release, and track long lead time items with the Purchasing Dept.

Manage, quote and release all underground material including but not limited to boxes, conduit, and rebar prior to project start

Manage the submittal process as dictated by project documents beginning with getting the submittals and finishing with getting approval of the submittals and sending them out to project team and suppliers, as required

PROJECT MANAGEMENT DUTIES:

Inform the Sr. Project Manager or Construction Manager of any significant project risks or issues and recommend solutions to mitigate them.

Monitor project financial performance through job cost reports, forecasting, owner billings, and productivity analysis to ensure projects remain on budget and profitable.

Ensure projects are executed in accordance with contract requirements, plans, specifications, quality standards, and company expectations.

Represent Columbia Electric professionally in meetings with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.

Manage the complete change order process, including pricing, negotiations, owner approvals, and issuing change orders to subcontractors and vendors.

Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules in collaboration with Superintendents, ensuring labor, materials, equipment, and field resources are effectively coordinated to meet project milestones.

Document project delays, prepare requests for time extensions or additional compensation when applicable, and provide pricing feedback to support future estimating efforts.

Conduct regular site visits (minimum weekly) to monitor project progress, quality, safety, and adherence to the project schedule.

Maintain strong working relationships with clients, owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, local authorities, and internal project teams to ensure successful project execution.

Manage all project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, schedules, cost reports, invoices, incident reports, Plan Grid updates, and project files to maintain accurate project records.

Coordinate all project communications to ensure field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams are informed of project updates, scope changes, and direction to proceed.

Manage project closeout activities, including punch lists, warranties, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, permit signoffs, vendor and subcontractor closeout, and all required contract documentation.

Review and administer project contracts to verify scope, exclusions, supporting documentation, and contractual compliance.
