Under the direction of the Community Services Program Coordinator, the Batting Cage Attendant is responsible for checking in guests, assisting customers as needed, fixing minor mechanical problems, supervising the batting cage facility, filling out proper daily tracking sheets and keeping all other paperwork updated. Cages are open 5 days a week from mid-March through October. One attendant is on duty during all operating hours.
Shifts will be divided among employees depending on availability. May provide occasional, custodial support such as re‑stocking bathrooms, emptying trash and opening/closing other on‑site sports fields.
Hourly wage: $16.97 per hour, Temporary Part‑Time, No benefits. Approximately 5‑20 hours per week as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Verifies customer reservations.
- Maintains and sanitizes equipment to patrons.
- Ensures participant are informed of facility program rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Ensures set up and clean up of equipment at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Ensures facilities and equipment are left in a secure condition by closing and locking all gates, windows, and doors.
- Assists in maintenance or cleaning of the playing and surrounding area.
- Provides excellent customer service to the public and staff alike. Responds to participants and general public using courteous and effective communication to provide information and resolve conflicts as necessary.
- Keeps accurate records and various reports involving cash handling.
- Notifies Coordinator of any maintenance needed to operate the batting cages.
- Assist with ensuring the safety of participants.
- Maintains cleanliness of facility.
- Must comply with City and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be comfortable working alone.
- Must possess customer service skills and basic math skills.
- Ability to work March through October.
- Must be available week nights and weekends, typically Tuesday through Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Ability to accurately process money transactions and maintain a variety of related records.
- Ability to maintain inventory and cleanliness of self and area.
- Minor mechanical abilities preferred but not required.
Staff should be prepared to work in an outdoor setting. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.;
verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with participants and other staff; visual acuity to oversee equipment. Work is done mostly outdoors, with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, pollens, variable air quality and slip hazards when near water. Potential risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Must be able to complete additional trainings, including but not limited to:
Concussion Training, Blood Borne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heat Illness, Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
