Peterson Power Systems – Experienced EPG Trainer
Peterson Power Systems has a need for an experienced EPG Trainer based at our San Leandro, CA location.
SUMMARYThe EPG Trainer delivers a comprehensive technical employee learning and development program that enhances knowledge, skills, and performance for technical employees, the organization, and our customers. The role designs, implements, and conducts training programs; instructs technical courses in foundational and EPG‑specific pathways; champions continuous learning across all business units; sets training objectives; writes curriculum and assessments; administers exams and performance reports;
and covers safety, installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of EPG machinery and associated equipment.
- Collaborate with Employee Development staff to plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive training and development strategy aligned with core values.
- Conduct learning needs assessments to identify training opportunities at all levels.
- Work with managers to define minimum skill proficiencies for technical positions and develop an evaluation process for performance and career advancement.
- Assist with the development, design, coordination, and implementation of a company wide performance management system.
- Provide consulting services for non‑technical training requests and coordinate training with internal and external stakeholders.
- Research, establish, and maintain training vendor/partner relationships and conduct cost‑benefit analyses for external resources.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate seminars, workshops, courses, and training.
- Perform needs analysis to identify skills/competency gaps and track progress.
- Execute innovative strategies to maintain necessary skills and competencies.
- Develop and implement innovative on‑the‑job training and career advancement support.
- Develop curricula, programs, and training materials.
- Conduct personalized classroom technical training covering electronics, hydraulics, powertrains, engines, emissions systems, and ETC.
- Coordinate alternative training delivery methods such as computer‑based training, web programs, and distance learning.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Department to promote training services to customers and Cat dealers.
Operate company or personal vehicle as required.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of six years of directly related experience in the electrical power generation (EPG) industry, or equivalent education and work experience.
- Proficient knowledge of Caterpillar products, EPG equipment, and commercial engines.
- Strong academic background in foundational Caterpillar courses and ability to complete all required courses for EPG Analyzer Certification within seven years of start date.
- Proven track record as an experienced field EPG technician.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- EPG Analyst or Marine Analyst Certification preferred.
- Arc Flash (medium and high voltage) safety and EPG‑specific training required.
- CIAP accreditation for teaching RDLC courses preferred.
Pay range: $113,000‑$135,000 annually. Starting wage depends on experience and education. Total compensation package includes competitive wages, generous benefits, and promotion opportunities.
