Job Overview
The EPG Trainer provides a comprehensive technical employee learning and development program that enhances knowledge, skills, and performance of technical employees, the Peterson organization, and Peterson customers.
The EPG Trainer analyzes, researches, develops, designs, organizes, implements, and conducts training programs. EPG Trainers instruct technical courses in both foundational and EPG-specific course pathways. This position champions a continuous learning environment for all Peterson business units.
Determines training objectives; writes training programs, including outline, text, handouts, and tests, and designs technical exercises; delivers lectures on safety, installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of EPG machinery and equipment; administers written and practical exams and writes performance reports to evaluate trainees’ performance.
Responsibilities- Technical Employees Development Plans:
Work with employee development staff to plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive training and development strategy; conduct learning needs assessments; define minimum skill proficiencies; develop evaluation processes for incumbents; consult with departments; recommend training activities; coordinate with outside training agencies. - Technical Curricula Development:
Conduct needs analysis; develop innovative strategies to ensure the organization has the necessary skills; assist in designing, coordinating, and evaluating seminars, workshops, courses, and training; research and maintain vendor relationships; conduct cost–benefit analysis. - Technical Skills Training:
Develop curricula, programs, and materials; conduct personalized classroom technical training; coordinate alternative delivery methods such as computer‑based, web delivery, and distance learning. - Peterson University Marketing:
Market university training services to customers and dealers. - Travel:
Up to 30% of time away from base location; operate vehicle as needed. - Attendance:
Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and a minimum of six years of directly related experience in the electrical power generation (EPG) industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of Caterpillar products and working knowledge of EPG equipment and commercial engines; strong foundation in all Caterpillar courses.
- Proven track record as a successful field EPG technician and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards; strong organizational, problem‑solving, and analytical skills; ability to manage priorities and workflow.
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities; ability to work independently and as part of various teams and committees.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines; good judgment and decision‑making.
- Creative, flexible and innovative team player.
- Must maintain valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- EPG Analyst or Marine Analyst Certification preferred.
- EPG‑specific training for Arc Flash (medium and high voltage) and CIAP accreditation for teaching RDLC courses preferred.
San Leandro, CA: $116,000 - $140,000
Hillsboro, OR: $105,000 - $125,000
Starting wage will depend on experience and education. Total compensation package also offered.
