Purpose
The Tooling Engineer will have ownership of the wax injection tool building process from concept to full and sustainable production. As the project owner, the Tooling Engineer coordinates with all technical resources required to build on time, high quality tooling. The role works with the Engineering Team in accordance with all PCC Structurals procedures and customer specifications. The Tooling Engineer also supports back‑end manufacturing and product engineering with other tool builds as necessary to facilitate production‑ready processes and hardware.
Essential Job Functions- Oversee all aspects of tooling including project management, status, design approval, etc.
- Produce tooling build instructions that meet all industry and PCC specific standards, coordinating needs between suppliers and internal engineers, and overseeing receipt of tooling to ensure compliance.
- Advance customer service by maintaining close contact with customers, planners, core vendors, tool vendors, and schedulers, internally and externally, to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
- Track and manage all activities for new and replacement tools for all accounts, coordinating with the customer, vendor, internal tool shop, and product engineering.
- Serve as primary contact for all tooling and gauging (pattern, core, sprue, etc.), including receipt and control of customer models, quotations, vendor selection, and POs.
- Organize and maintain tooling records and coordinate customer‑owned tooling inventories.
- Provide technical support for Product & Quality Engineers, Sales, and Manufacturing in identifying and resolving tooling and/or dimensional issues including wax/metal dimensional correlations, repair, and scrap opportunities.
- Ensure performance to milestones that support customer commitments within quoted costs.
- Coordinate design, build and source inspection of all new and reworked gauges and fixtures at outside vendors.
- May be assigned to special cost‑reduction initiatives as part of a multi‑discipline team.
- Perform other duties as required that align with business and tooling needs, including 6S, safety, or cost‑takeout actions related to hardware function or maintenance.
- Ability to operate injection tooling and injection presses for testing and quality inspections.
- Ability to operate or utilize straightening fixtures and gauges for testing and quality inspections.
- This position reports to the Site Engineer Manager/Director.
- 3+ years of experience in Engineering or Operations, preferably in an investment casting environment.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in engineering.
- Significant project management experience is highly desired.
- High level of competence in Solid Works (preferred), Unigraphics/NX.
- Familiarity with gauge concepts.
- Experience using inspection equipment such as surface plate, height stand, indicators, optical comparator.
- Knowledge of casting blueprint GD&T and interpretation of complex drawings.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, clients, co‑workers, and supervisors.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross‑functional technical resources.
- Good understanding of data processing, MS Excel.
Pay range: $77,600–$116,400 USD. Eligible for quarterly cash bonus, 80 hours paid time off annually, 10 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and a 401(k) plan.
