We are seeking a Formation Process Engineer for the Cell Manufacturing Engineering team. This role focuses on process engineering for our pilot formation line in San Jose, collaborating with R&D and test teams, conducting experiments, and leading technology transfer to pilot scales.
Responsibilities- Own process engineering and technology transfer for pilot battery cell formation
- Initiate root‑cause analysis when an excursion or new failure mode is discovered
- Support cross‑functional team members to solve root cause and implement resolutions
- Scrape data from database systems to collect and report on data
- Own and maintain standard operating procedures for formation processes
- Train technicians on formation operations and procedures
- Develop project plans and effectively communicate status and findings at various levels of management
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- 2+ years’ experience in engineering involving electrical or electromechanical systems
- Able to converse confidently on all aspects of cell manufacturing from electrode through formation for at least one Lithium‑based material system
- Proficient in SQL and statistical analysis software (R, JMP, Minitab)
- Experience operating and troubleshooting battery formation / testing equipment & software (e.g. MACCOR, Arbin, NEWARE, etc.)
- Proficient in GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis
- Proficiency in Solid Works or CAD a plus
- Proficiency in Python a plus
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Be able to work in a lab standing up to 8 hours each day
Base salary range: $ – $. The level of pay within the range will depend on job‑related factors including location, experience and education.
