Overview
Coreshell's metallurgical Silicon anode technology delivers high capacity, fast-charging, and superior safety. Our low-cost Silicon-dominant batteries have higher energy density, superior intrinsic thermal safety, and significantly lower cost/kWh compared to current LIBs. Coreshell's Si anode material is lower than the cost of graphite and utilizes the largest abundant critical mineral supply in the US and Europe. We strive to transform the global energy and transportation market by enabling cost effective and secure domestic battery supply.
ThePosition
Coreshell is investigating novel methods of maximizing the performance of metallurgical grade silicon as an anode material for lithium-ion battery applications. The project will focus on advancing battery electrode materials by optimizing their composition processing techniques, and testing in electrochemical cells.
Project GoalThe project aims to modify the surface of our metallurgical silicon active material to improve cycle life performance.
Responsibilities- Performing chemical reactions to modify the surface of silicon particles
- Applying a multi-step process, preparing the silicon for addition to a slurry
- Formulating, preparing electrode slurries, and applying coatings to current collectors
- Assembling coin cells using optimized materials
- Characterizing materials using techniques such as SEM-EDX, TGA, and particle size analysis
- Assisting with setup, testing, and debugging of new processing operations
- Analyzing data and presenting it to the team members
- Maintaining detailed experiment records
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals
- Adhering to lab safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe work environment
- In process or obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience working in research laboratories, glovebox handling
- Creative, self-driven, “out-of-the-box” thinker with a long history of problem-solving and an ability to wear many hats
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience with organic synthesis
- Experience with coin cell building and electrochemical analysis
- Experience with material analytical techniques
