We are seeking an experienced EHS Staff Professional to provide technical leadership for safety, environmental compliance, and risk management across battery manufacturing operations. This role will be based out of Lyten’s facility in San Leandro, and will partner closely with Engineering, Construction, Facilities, Operations and other EHS members to ensure EHS principles are integrated into facility design, equipment commissioning, production ramp-up, and future expansion projects.
As a senior individual contributor, you will influence critical business decisions, drive risk reduction through engineering controls, and help establish scalable EHS standards that support rapid growth and operational excellence.
- Serve as the EHS technical lead for facility design, capital projects, manufacturing processes, and operational readiness.
- Conduct and facilitate comprehensive risk assessments, including HAZOP, PHA, FMEA, JHA, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to identify hazards and implement effective engineering and administrative controls.
- Support commissioning and startup activities to ensure equipment, systems, and processes are safe and compliant before operation.
- Lead EHS readiness and risk management efforts during production ramp and facility expansion projects.
- Develop and maintain EHS standards, specifications, procedures, and governance systems that can scale across multiple facilities.
- Provide technical expertise in battery manufacturing hazards, including chemical safety, electrical safety, machine safety, fire protection, and thermal runaway prevention.
- Leads regular work area EH&S audits/inspections.
- Documents findings and work with business representatives to track them to closure.
- Leads the effort to establish a Corporate EH&S Management System that conforms to ISO 14001.
- Identifies projects and initiatives, establishes project plans, and successfully drive projects to completion.
- Improves the EH&S culture by working cross-functionally and collaboratively with colleagues and senior leaders to build a culture that embraces proactivity and integrates EHS processes into the business.
- Leads EH&S business process improvement initiatives in support of our mission and objectives.
- Supports emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and business continuity.
- May be called after hours to support emergency incidents onsite.
- Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
- Must be able to wear a respirator.
- Contributes to the development of manufacturing, maintenance, and R&D safe work practices.
- May manage external resources on limited scope projects.
- Travel between Lyten facilities is required approximately 10-20% of the time.
