JOB TITLE:
Manager of Engineering Services
LOCATION:
San Leandro, CA
SALARY RANGE: $138,580 - $163,364
POSITION SUMMARY:
To direct, oversee, mentor, and evaluate all Engineering Group staff; to ensure overall profitability of all projects; to act as Project Manager on large, complex, and/or controversial projects; and to develop new streams of project opportunities, grow the Engineering Group and solicit work with new and existing clients.

- Perform administrative work on time (timecard review and approval, pre-bills, reimbursables, meeting attendance, etc.).

- Customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment, which will affect matters of consequence to the business or our customers.
- Travel, as necessary, to support the firm and clients.
- Share profession-related talents with others in the firm.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support the success of the company.
- Recommend yearly workgroup business plan targets to service council leader.
- Lead, coordinate and collaborate with the service council leader, office leader, and other workgroup managers to provide leadership and consistency in the following areas:
- Workload and staffing.
- Quality control and standardized procedures.
- Training and education.
- Mentoring staff and developing skills.
- Recommend/Introduce initiatives to improve or strengthen workgroup performance.
- Complete staff performance reviews on time.
- Conduct disciplinary actions in coordination with human resources and the service council leader.
- Ensure compliance and advocacy of Corporate Services functions and processes.
- Ensure compliance and advocate the use of financial reporting data to improve performance.
- Demonstrate leadership and connection with all departments and other offices within the firm.
- Meet Engineering business metrics set yearly by the board.
- Continue to build and show growth in the Engineering Group.
- Ensure the success of projects completed within the workgroup for the firm and client.
- Act as a project manager on specific projects; meet budgets and deadlines.
- Assign and schedule project managers and teams to projects.
- Maintain project schedule and project budget.
- Provide research and respond to technical questions.
- Mentor and direct project team members regarding project scheduling, budgeting, and work scope.
- Coordinate with your workgroup on project issues and concerns.
- Oversee all projects, including those managed by others in the workgroup.
- Manage large, complex, and/or controversial projects.
- Lead overall budget and contract administration for managed projects.
- Direct and oversee the design and CAD work of all Engineering staff.
- Ensure project managers have the resources necessary to meet scheduling and budget commitments.
- Delegate scope and budget for tasks assigned to others, monitor their performance, and mentoring them on ways of how to stay within scope and budget.
- Prepare complete proposals and budgets.
- Understand, negotiate, and prepare complete contracts and negotiations for private and public clients.
- Review reports for quality control and ensure they comply with project scope.
- Visit project sites regularly for initial site visit and to confirm design issues, monitor construction, etc.
- Maintain profitability of your workgroup.
- Meet your chargeability target as set annually by the company.
- Meet workgroup chargeability target as set annually by the board of directors.
- Responsible for accounts receivable and bad debt.
- Forecast work volume and staffing needs.
- Carry overall responsibility for project profitability.
- Meet budgets and deadlines.
- Submit timely billing files, timecards, and reimbursables.
- Develop budgets, tasks, and contract negotiation for clients.
- Maintain project schedule and project budget.
- Oversee workgroup accounts receivable and bad debt.
- Initiate, develop, and maintain strong relationships with all outside parties involved in the market sector, including contacts, professional organizations, clients, specialty consultants, and agencies.
- Attend or lead client interviews/presentations.
- Attend client, agency, and consultant meetings as required.
- Continue to develop expertise in chosen Company market sector.
- Engage in continued education to be a recognized expert within your workgroup.
- Prepare complete proposals in coordination with the marketing group.
- Sign/Seal drawings if authorized.
- Oversee the business development efforts of project managers.
- Travel as necessary to support the firm and clients.
