Overview
We’re looking for a Food Scientist to join the Innovation Transformation Team as a product developer with a passion for innovating through applied deep consumer understanding. In this role you will be developing and commercializing both innovative products and supporting the out-of-the-world go-to-market strategy. You’re energized by learning directly from users, sensory panelists and team members and iterating quickly, helping the team move from problems and insights to tangible formulation opportunities.
Because of your product development expertise, you can deploy a process to support the team’s investigation and elicit feedback. Your formulation experience delivers truly amazing flavors in new-to-the-world products that sing in creative beverages.

- Innovation Leader:
You applied Torani’s Design Thinking development process to support the Innovation Pipeline. You contributed to consumer learning activities helping clarify challenges and identifying opportunities that strengthen Torani’s brand value. You translated consumer insights into viable product ideas that show strong technical promise. You’ve managed multiple innovation projects using Torani’s innovation tools and frameworks. You used customer insights in your technical work and helped teammates by sharing what you learned and guiding them through simple innovation steps.
You maintained accurate product data and ensured complete specifications for all products you developed and/or supported developing. - Prototype & Concept Builder:
You managed early prototyping work for 1-2 priority innovation briefs—exploring problem spaces, developing benchtop samples, gathering feedback, and refining iterations. You articulated clear product concepts grounded in consumer needs and applied design-thinking principles to improve prototypes. You successfully supported the development of differentiated product and packaging directions. - Technical Practitioner:
You created and executed technical plans that ensured safe, consistent, scalable, high-quality products. You conducted root cause investigations for assigned issues, recommended solutions, and updated documentation and procedures. You translated benchtop formulas into manufacturing instructions with guidance from senior R&D team members. You supported label and claims checks and strengthened your technical knowledge in sensory science, sweeteners, clean-label ingredients, and emerging processes.
You shared relevant learnings with peers to elevate the R&D team’s knowledge base. - Strategic Collaborator:
You leveraged relationships with cross-functional team members, suppliers, pilot plants, and specialty ingredient partners to strengthen formulation capabilities. You coordinated technical activities tied to commercialization plans and helped prepare products for scale-up. You contributed to cross-functional discussions to ensure technical readiness for launch. You have coordinated at least 3 innovation/trend sessions with suppliers of interest based on team technical needs. - Project Management & Cross-Functional Engagement:
You owned defined work streams within cross-functional teams—formula refinement, process validation, cost checks, ingredient assessments—and ensured quality and safety parameters were met. You collaborated effectively across teams and built strong relationships with marketing, operations, and quality partners. You communicated clearly, escalated risks early, and influenced decision-making through sound technical reasoning. - You had a little fun along the way!
- Bachelor’s degree in food science or related discipline
- 5+ years of relevant, progressive experience in beverage or food product development
- Experience developing beverage/food from concept to commercialization
- Demonstrated proficiency in applied flavor chemistry, ingredient functionalities, formulating for food safety and HACCP-trained
- Hands-on experience in food analysis, laboratory analytical techniques, and lab equipment
- Preferred:
Experience designing, conducting and interpreting sensory testing; PCQI training;
Better Process School for thermal processing;
Experience in preparing for GFSI audit - PLM and Red Jade experience a plus
- Practiced with working in product data management systems (i.e., Oracle PLM, Tracegains or similar)
Salary Range: $97,000 - $108,000
