Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Industrial Engineer Intern to join our team in San Leandro and/or San Jose locations. In this role, you will apply industrial engineering and lean manufacturing principles directly to the manufacturing floor and labs, play an active role in optimizing shop floor layouts, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and designing workflows for maximum efficiency inside our advanced production areas and dry rooms.
Key Responsibilities- Process Mapping & Optimization – Value Stream Mapping (VSM):
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to draft end‑to‑end Value Stream Maps, identifying bottlenecks, waste, and opportunities for throughput optimization. - Process Flow Mapping – Draft detailed process flow maps for new and existing production steps to standardize workflows and clarify manufacturing steps.
- Layout & Efficiency Analysis – Utilize Spaghetti Diagrams and time studies to analyze material and operator movement, reducing transport waste and optimizing the footprint of our production lines and specialized dry rooms.
- Lean & Continuous Improvement – 5S Audits & Structure:
Help structure, set up, and moderate localized 5S programs across manufacturing and lab spaces; conduct regular 5S audits to sustain high organizational and safety standards. - Line Setup – Support manufacturing engineers in the physical and operational setup of new assembly and pilot lines, ensuring workstations are ergonomically and sequentially optimized for peak efficiency.
- Continuous Improvement Culture – Facilitate and document lean problem‑solving sessions, tracking actionable outcomes that reduce cycle times and lower defect rates.
- Work Instructions / Standard Operating Procedures – Help update existing and draft new WI’s and SOP’s.
- Completion of Senior year of Bachelors Industrial Engineering program or 1st year Masters Industrial Engineering Program.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Eager to learn in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
- Strong willingness to learn and be a team player.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with other employees and vendors.
- Able to lift 20‑30 lbs.
- Able to stand for up to 5 hours.
The expected base salary range for this position is between $25.00 – $32.00 per hour. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job‑related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

This compensation and benefits information is based on Lyten’s estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company‑specific knowledge. In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier‑based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable).
