CMM Inspector - Level 1; Wed-Sun

Mission

Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of layout inspection functions on critical castings, wax patterns, fixtures, and other items to assure conformance to customer requirements. Utilize generally accepted dimensional inspection methods in accordance with established quality standards. Ensure that documentation, tooling, and parts are correctly matched to paperwork.

• Layout Technician: set up and perform inspection functions on castings or other items to verify conformance to visual and dimensional requirements as defined by work instructions and/or inspection programs.

• Follow established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment.
• Perform all manner of inspection functions associated with running existing CMM programs.
• Analyze CMM inspection data sets and release acceptable product to the next operation.
• Analyze CMM inspection data sets to discern rework activities on product that does not meet defined requirements.
• Log onto main computer system, extract information, log time, enter inventory amount and forward to next operation.
• As directed by department lead, calibrate and maintain appropriate records for all types of inspection equipment as required in plant.
• Transport castings into and out of inspection area.
• Complete all necessary paperwork and records as required. Maintain daily inspection reports, logs, and gauge pack data entries.
• Report any discrepancies or out-of-tolerance condition to inspection supervisor and prepare corrective action requests.
• Cooperate when assistance is needed by management.
• Understand blueprint interpretation and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Notify supervisor immediately when workload is low.
• Handle all tools, dies, equipment and forklifts (if applicable) safely and efficiently to prevent damage.
• Maintain equipment in good, clean working order.
• Meet all production and quality standards. Follow set OCP’s and QCP’s.
• Perform all other duties assigned.
• Perform calibration of hand tools and enter required information into the designated database.
• Assist with other calibration functions as required.
• Work safely when lifting, use transport devices or get help if needed.
• Record all updated calibration dates in computer and on item tag.
• Return all items to proper location.
• Adhere to plant and department safety rules and identify and report safety problems.
• Safely operate all equipment and tools.

• CMMs and a variety of calibrated inspection tools.
• Lifting devices (lift tables, cranes, forklifts, etc.).
• Various hand tools (pliers, wrenches, comparators, and other measuring devices).

• Training is provided on the job and may be documented by verbal, written, or practical testing.

• Experience and/or training are considered.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, read, follow, and interpret instructions on technique cards, code sheets, and other verbal or written instructions.
• Requires ability to perform mathematical calculations and possess an understanding of decimals, fractions, conversions, and geometry.
• Ability to use simple to complex measuring devices and fixtures.
• Experience with CMM programming and CMM Manager software.
• Experience with manual inspection methods.
