George Mark Children’s House provides compassionate care to enhance quality of life for children with serious medical conditions and their families.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Programs, the Registered Nurse will work collaboratively within the Nursing Department and will provide direct patient care and assist in the coordination of patient care services using the framework of the GMCH Mission and the philosophy of pediatric palliative care. This is an hourly, non-exempt part‑time 60% (24 hours/week) position.
We are hiring for the 11 pm‑7:30 am shift. It will include rotating weekends and holidays.

• At the direction of the patient’s primary care physician, the Medical Director and the Director of Clinical Programs, provide and coordinate quality palliative care to patients/families, including nursing services, medication administration, treatments, diagnostic and preventative procedures.
• In coordination with IDT (Inter-disciplinary Team) develop, implement, evaluate, and update the plan of care for each patient/family.
• Assess patients and report to the managing physician reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patient’s physical or emotional condition.
• Assess and respond to clinical and psychosocial needs of patients and families.
• Perform nursing procedures such as central line dressing changes, mediport access, GT feeds, respiratory treatments, and suctioning.
• Calculate medications and fluids with 100% accuracy.
• Assess pain and manage symptoms associated with pediatric patients requiring end-of-life care.
• Coordinates and transcribes patients’ orders with accuracy.
• Coordinate nursing care with other team members including nursing staff, psychosocial staff, pharmacist, Medical Director, attending physicians, and various community agencies and resources.
• Supervise LVNs, CNAs, and volunteers.
• Participate in admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols, proper handling of medications, and controlled substance regulations.
• Ensure proper use of DME and other equipment by following manufacturers’ instructions; acts as liaison with DME providers as needed.
• Maintain current clinical knowledge of pediatric palliative care practices through ongoing education and attendance of in-service training sessions and regular clinical meetings.

• Actively participate in the provision of clinical and psychosocial care for GMCH children- and families.
• Ongoing assessment of patient and family needs; clear communication and delegation to interdisciplinary team as appropriate. Educate and support patients and families regarding pain and symptom management and end of life progression.
• Communicate with patient/family regarding any changes in condition or plan of care.

• Document medical interventions and maintain accurate clinical records in the electronic medical record.
• Attend scheduled Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings when possible.
• Demonstrate clear communication with patient, family, and hospital staff if patient is transferred.
• Maintain patient confidence and protect GMCH operations by adhering to HIPAA regulations.
• Check GMCH email regularly in order to be apprised of House business and professional tasks and responsibilities.
