Head Cashier Role Overview
The Head Cashier is responsible for supervising a team of cashiers and assisting with operational issues. They ensure excellent customer service by visiting registers, providing guidance to cashiers and courtesy clerks, handling customer assistance at the register, and overseeing store sweep assignments, cash register supplies, restroom and parking lot cleanliness, exit door visibility for security, break scheduling, and staff training and discipline.
Responsibilities- Ensure excellent customer service through proactively visiting registers and providing direction/support to cashiers and courtesy clerks.
- Assist in potential customer assistance issues at the register.
- Assign store sweeps, monitor and maintain cash register supply levels, and maintain cleanliness standards in restrooms and parking lots.
- Maintain visibility of exit doors for security and loss prevention issues.
- Schedule and oversee proper execution of appropriate meal and rest breaks in compliance with company policy and state requirements.
- Assist in the hiring and training of new cashiers and taking necessary steps for disciplinary actions.
- Be at least 18 years of age; possess a high school diploma or GED, and 1–2 years of recent cashiering experience supplemented with leadership training.
- Be dependable and reliable with the ability to work a flexible schedule that changes as the business changes, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Have an outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers, representing a role model in behaviors.
- Ability to operate front‑end equipment: register, calculator, scanner.
- Have good communication skills; the ability to take direction or constructive criticism and participate in a team environment.
- Be able to perform repetitious activities, and have the ability to multi‑task, prioritize and stay organized.
- Must lift and carry product horizontally or vertically weighing up to 30 lbs., from 36" to 24", for a distance up to 3 feet for up to 50 hours without mechanical assistance.
- Must use both hands to move grocery carts horizontally requiring a force up to 35 lbs., for a distance up to 4 feet for up to 50 hours.
- Requires strong attention to detail and proficiency with numbers; proficient in cash handling and mathematical skills; ability to read, write and count.
The pay range for this position is $17.70–$23.88 per hour. Sprouts Farmers Market determines pay based on applicable experience and qualifications of the applicant.
