SUMMARY:
Based in San Leandro, Building Futures is an Alameda County leader providing a safety net of services to help individuals and families rebuild safe and stable lives after homelessness and family violence. To accomplish this aim, the agency provides a continuum of care including two homeless shelters; a domestic violence safe house; a full spectrum of domestic violence outreach services;
a transitional and permanent housing site; and rapid rehousing programs which serves target populations including military veterans, families reuniting after CPS involvement, survivors of domestic violence, and others.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Domestic Violence Shelter Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations and works to ensure the safety and health of Sister Me Home, BF Domestic Violence Safe House, including all residents and staff that work at the site. Under the supervision of the DV Services Director, the DV Shelter Manager will implement consistent policies that are in line with Alameda County shelter standards, including written down protocols that is trauma-informed in practice yet consistent in ensuring the safety and health of all residents and staff in a communal shelter setting.
This position will provide ongoing support and supervision of the daily operations and service delivery to Safe House staff in serving the needs of survivors of domestic violence, from crisis to increased options towards housing. This position is part of the leadership team in ensuring the implementation of domestic violence best practices and resources for DV survivors, focused on SMH residents.
The DV Shelter Manager must be flexible in their work and schedule and is supportive in their interaction with staff and clients. This person must be genuine in leadership style, detail-oriented, organized, skilled in conflict management, written and verbal communication, and be able to perform with multiple interruptions and multitask projects.
Essential Functions:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Uphold the highest standards of professionalism (while maintaining personal/professional boundaries) for the site, representing the agency in the response and interaction with staff and clients.
- Train, support, supervise and foster leadership among staff at SMH.
- Support and provide on call back up scheduling and shifts for shelter staff
- Develop strong resources and engaging methods of delivery for Domestic Violence victims, while understanding the sensitivity necessary in serving families who have experienced domestic violence
- Remain current on domestic violence best practices and the resources available for safe house residents, make sure to keep clients and staff well informed.
- Maintain overall health and safety of the domestic violence safe house through a trauma informed care approach (educating staff consistently).
- Uphold ethics and confidentiality of the safe house.
- Build community relationships on behalf of the site.
- Facilitate regular safe house staff meetings.
- Participate in weekly supervision with Director.
- Attend and participate in agency’s weekly shelter case conference meeting.
- Co-facilitate weekly DV team case conference meetings w/ Outreach Manager
- Ensure monthly client calendar is created, updated, and distributed to clients and entire DV team to encourage clients to participate in program activities, including activities led by staff around healthy relationships, housing support, self-empowerment, caregiver support around the impact of DV on kids etc.
- Responsible for ensuring SMH staff meets all required deliverables, including data requirements by funder weekly and monthly.
- Create and maintain written protocols for consistent, trauma-informed, and improved service delivery.
- Responsible for ensuring facility is compliant with shelter standards and be ready for regular on-site audits.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR OPERATIONS AND SERVICE DELIVERY:
- Work with Human Resources to hire and onboard staff.
- Determine staff training needs of SMH staff and arrange for training.
- Respond to any emergency situations at the site as needed and participate in on-call emergencies.
