Overview

Endowed Dean of the College of Engineering and Noyce School of Applied Computing at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), a distinguished public undergraduate and master’s level institution located in San Luis Obispo, California.

Cal Poly has received national recognition for its "Learn by Doing" philosophy, which prepares students to be leaders and problem solvers in an increasingly complex world. The College of Engineering (CENG) offers 14 bachelor’s and 11 master’s degree programs across engineering and computer science disciplines, all emphasizing hands‑on learning and practical experience.

Compensation: $300–350K plus supplemental compensation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide external and university‑wide strategic leadership for the College of Engineering and the Noyce School of Applied Computing.
  • Advance Cal Poly’s distinct mission, values, and clear vision of being the nation’s premier comprehensive polytechnic university.
  • Accelerate the College’s trajectory of academic excellence, attract and retain talented students, faculty, and staff reflective of California’s demographics, and secure facilities and resources necessary to support growth.
  • Integrate the Noyce School under the Dean and the College to enhance the integration of engineering and computing across the University, deepen interdisciplinary collaboration, and advance industry and external partnerships.
  • Embed AI across curriculum and research and accelerate cross‑campus, AI‑enabled solutions to real‑world challenges.
  • Provide a sense of stability while encouraging innovation and continuing CENG’s strong momentum.
  • Lead the College during a time of rapid change in higher education and at the University by bringing the College to a higher level of success and recognition.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in academic leadership, preferably at a research university.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain external relationships and secure funding.
  • Experience advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in higher education.
  • Strong strategic vision, communication, and organizational skills.
Supplemental Information

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. The position may be designated under the California State University Conflict of Interest Code and requires filing a Statement of Economic Interest annually and completing training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
