Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department - Post-Doctoral Teaching Scholar

The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, invites applications for one full-time, Post-Doctoral Teaching Scholar appointment as a Full-Time Lecturer starting in August 2026 for a two-year appointment for AY 26/27 and AY 27/28. This appointment comes with the possibility of a one-year extension to AY 28/29 contingent on budget, department need, and satisfactory evaluations.

The primary responsibility is teaching core and elective industrial engineering courses. This teaching development program seeks to attract and prepare outstanding individuals with completed PhDs for a successful career in engineering academia by gaining teaching experience and training at a premier teaching-oriented engineering institution. While the selected participant will primarily engage in teaching activities in core industrial engineering courses appropriate to their preparation, they will also be supported through mentorship by experienced engineering educators and through the University’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology.

Though the position primarily provides instructional training and experience, teaching duties will be reduced by 20%-25% from a full-time schedule to allow the participant to engage in scholarly pursuits in partnership and collaboration with the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. • Enterprise analytics and database systems
• Operations research and management
• Statistical decision-making and quality control
• Production planning and control systems
• Process and system simulation
• Facilities design and warehousing
• Applications of enterprise analytics
• Supply chain and logistics management

This apprenticeship position will be hired at the rank of Lecturer B with an anticipated annual salary of $74,652 paid in 12 monthly installments of $6,221.
