The Industrial Technology, Packaging, and Entrepreneurship area in the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly is seeking applications for a pool of part‑time lecturers and lab instructors during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2026‑27 academic year, which begins August 17, 2026. Positions are available as determined by need and funding for teaching assignments in packaging design, packaging polymers and processing, packaging machinery and processes, packaging sustainability, instrumental analysis of packaging polymers, packaging quality assessment, packaging laws and regulations, healthcare packaging, packaging performance testing, fiber‑based packaging, and packaging development.
Assignments are contingent upon class availability, scheduling, budget, and enrollments.
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2026, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Industrial Technology, Design, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated currency in the professional field through ongoing work, training or engagement with industry trends.
- Substantial and relevant industry experience, showing depth of knowledge and practical application in the field.
- MS, MBA, or PhD in Packaging, Industrial Technology, Design, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Must demonstrate a strong teaching potential and commitment to maintaining currency in the professional field.
- Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
