Job OverviewThe Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking full‑time lecturer positions for the 2026‑2027 academic year, with a possibility of a one‑year extension for the 2027‑2028 academic year contingent on departmental need and satisfactory evaluations. Primary duties will be teaching fundamental courses in Mechanical Engineering, such as design communication, engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or mechanical design.
Candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply.
- Teach undergraduate core courses in Mechanical Engineering.
- Develop course materials, assignments, and assessments.
- Engage students in active learning and laboratory activities.
- Maintain academic standards and meet faculty development requirements.
- Participate in departmental meetings and professional development.
Applicants should have earned a Bachelor’s Degree (BSME) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, demonstrate a commitment to student‑centered teaching, and be able to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings. Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. Candidates with extensive industry experience are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications- Advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields.
- Significant industry experience or teaching experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience working with broad populations and fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

The department has over 1,300 BSME undergraduates and 50 MSME students.
