Cannon Corp seeks a Structural Principal Engineer to lead complex structural design projects within our Engineering & Architecture department. You will oversee structural analysis and design for residential and commercial developments, ensuring code compliance, safety, and constructability. Responsibilities include leading project teams, coordinating with architects and consultants, reviewing calculations and drawings, and mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities
- Lead structural engineering design and analysis for residential and commercial building projects from concept through construction.
- Serve as the structural technical authority, establishing design criteria, standards, and best practices for the department.
- Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, and specifications for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with codes and standards.
- Coordinate closely with architects, MEP, civil, and other consultants to integrate structural solutions into cohesive building designs.
- Collaborate with real estate, development, and property management teams to align structural decisions with broader project and investment objectives.
- Oversee the use of structural analysis and BIM software, ensuring accurate models and effective interdisciplinary coordination.
- Manage, mentor, and develop structural engineering staff, providing technical guidance, feedback, and career development support.
- Lead value engineering, risk assessment, and peer review activities to optimize structural systems, materials, and construction approaches.
- Support business development by participating in proposals, presentations, and client meetings, positioning Cannon Corp as a trusted partner.
- Monitor industry trends, changes in building codes, and advancements in structural materials and methods, and incorporate relevant updates into practice.
Required Skills
- Advanced structural analysis and design for buildings (steel, concrete, masonry, and wood systems)
- Proficiency with structural design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP
2000, RAM, RISA, SAFE, or similar) - Strong knowledge of building codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, AWC)
- Experience with seismic and wind design, including lateral-force-resisting systems
- Familiarity with BIM and coordination tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks)
- Preparation and review of structural drawings and specifications
- Foundation design and soil-structure interaction coordination with geotechnical engineers
- Construction administration, including RFIs, submittal review, and field observations
- Project management, including scope, budget, and schedule control for structural work
- Technical leadership, team mentorship, and client-facing communication skills
