Job Description & How to Apply Below

The IT Supervisor position supports the San Luis Obispo County Health Agency, one of the County’s largest and most operationally complex departments. The Health Agency delivers Public Health, Behavioral Health, and Environmental Health services across multiple locations and relies on stable, responsive IT operations to support both staff and public-facing services.

This is a full-time, in-office position based in San Luis Obispo County. Due to the operational nature of the role, regular on-site presence is required. Limited hybrid scheduling may be considered only after the successful completion of the probationary period and demonstration of sustained performance and operational stability.

The IT Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of an operational IT team, currently consisting of:

  • Two System Administrators
  • Three Service Desk IT Technicians

This role oversees day-to-day IT operations, staff performance, workload prioritization, and escalation handling, while also contributing to process improvement efforts and the continued implementation of the Health Agency’s IT Service Management (ITSM) platform.

The position requires close coordination with the County’s central Information Technology Department, adherence to countywide standards and governance, and the ability to navigate clear boundaries between departmental and enterprise IT responsibilities.

The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing operational support with continuous improvement, supervising technical staff in a high-demand environment, and leading through periods of change.

This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on IT supervisor who can quickly acclimate to a complex, highly regulated environment and bring structure, clarity, and follow-through to daily operations. They are comfortable supervising experienced technical staff, identifying performance gaps, and holding team members accountable while supporting growth and development. They understand that process improvement in the public sector requires stakeholder engagement, patience, and disciplined execution.

This individual balances technical credibility with strong judgment, communicates clearly under pressure, and knows when to elevate issues versus resolving them within the team. They are comfortable working fully on‑site, building relationships through presence, and leading operational teams through change.
