Position: Software Development Manager, ESCAPE

Overview

The AmSec Endpoint Security Capabilities and Prevention Engineering team builds and operates first and third party services for monitoring and response to malicious activity on Amazon internal devices. We collect data from all parts of Amazon's environment worldwide. We seek a Software Development Manager who will lead a talented team to solve challenging problems by developing our own solutions while operating a mission critical service that protects Amazon and customer data.

We build flexible, secure, scalable, high-performance, robust tools and services to enable security engineers and analysts to detect and respond to malicious activity on our infrastructure. We operate multiple large scale data query platforms to allow security engineers to detect anomalies and facilitate threat hunting. You will lead engineers to operate these services to a high operational level while building new tools and services to improve customer experience and efficiency for the customer to get what they need.

In AmSec, we obsess over our customers, and their trust is our first priority. You will lead a key software development team to deliver high quality, scalable products deployed to our internal services worldwide. You will collaborate with product owners and customers to deliver the best features, using resources and technologies efficiently. You will work with stakeholders to define scalable solutions that satisfy a wide variety of security needs.

You will assign responsibilities, identify resources, and build schedules to ensure timely completion of project milestones. You will assess risks, anticipate bottlenecks, and balance business needs against technical constraints to maximize business benefit. You bring a technical background, are detail driven, and have excellent problem solving abilities. The successful candidate is passionate about delivering extensible, on‑time solutions and has experience developing high‑performance teams through goal‑setting, performance metrics, continuous process improvement, and mentorship.

On-Call Responsibility:
This position involves on-call responsibilities. We strive to keep systems fault tolerant and to resolve root causes so we are not paged repeatedly.

Key job responsibilities
  • Drive the vision for the services and programs within the team, aligning with customer requirements and organizational deliverables and timelines.
  • Help the team understand priorities, unblock engineers, and deliver amazing tools within Amazon Security that improve the security posture and enable engineers to access the data they need.
A day in the life

The teams mission is to support Security teams by having a scalable and fault tolerant presentation layer for querying security data for troubleshooting and incident response.

An SDM typically spends part of the day working with the team to understand task status, prioritizing new tasks and features, and helping unblock issues. The rest of the day involves engaging with customers to understand new requirements and prioritizing them within the team roadmap. An SDM also frequently meets with org leaders and customers to discuss goals and status.
