Annual Salary: $204,006 – $273,395 DOE/DOQ
The County of San Luis Obispo, California, is seeking a transformational Behavioral Health Director to provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for its Behavioral Health Department during a critical period of organizational strengthening. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a compassionate, community-focused department while advancing accountability, performance, and service delivery across mental health and substance use programs.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the Behavioral Health Department.
- Oversee five direct reports and mentor managers.
- Collaborate closely with the fiscal team, providing input on budget development and oversight.
- Advance accountability, performance, and service delivery across mental health and substance use programs.
- Partner with advisory bodies, service partners, and community stakeholders to strengthen systems and advance community well‑being.
- Executive-level behavioral health leader with Director-level or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated success leading complex public-sector behavioral health systems.
- Extensive experience in behavioral health administration, clinical service delivery, and public-sector financing with diverse revenue streams.
- Effective communicator and trusted leader who mentors managers and collaborates productively with advisory bodies, service partners, and community stakeholders.
