Job SummaryAssists the surgeon in the first assistant role, as defined by the privileges established through the Medical Staff Office/credentialing process, as an Allied Health professional. The RNFA can act only as the RNFA, not a scrub or circulating RN, during a surgical procedure, concurrently. This position is represented by CNA.
Job Requirements- Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent:
Required - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing:
Preferred - Successful completion of an RNFA course:
Required - Three years experience as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room:
Required - Start credentialing process through Medical Staff upon acceptance of position:

- Current RN license in state of practice:
Required - Basic Life Support (BLS or HS‑BLS or RQIBLS) certification:
Required - ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support):
Required - Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR):
Required - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS or HS‑PALS or RQIPALS) certification:
Preferred - Liability Insurance:
Required - Professional Liability Insurance (PLI):
Required - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS or RQIACLS):
Required
- Compete to provide exposure of the surgical wound intraoperatively under supervision of the surgeon; consistently apply aseptic technique.
- Provide hemostasis intraoperatively under supervision of the surgeon, and care for/dress the surgical wound with appropriate manipulation of tissue.
- Safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials from operative procedures.
- Access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for patient care and other duties.
- Safely and appropriately fulfill job‑specific responsibilities related to patient safety, security, emergency preparedness, hazardous materials, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems per the Hospital’s environment of care plan.
- Document temperature of tissue/allografts, verify package integrity, and deliver to sterile field per manufacturer guidelines; record in appropriate tissue log book and efficiently manage multiple tasks.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
