Job Summary
Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families throughout the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including emergency situations and cesarean section procedures. Coordinates and supervises patient care while utilizing clinical judgment to promote safe, high-quality maternal and newborn outcomes.
Job Requirements Education & Experience- Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent:
Required - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN):
Preferred - Two years of Labor & Delivery experience:

- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice:
Required - Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR):
Required - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS):
Required - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP):
Required - Intermediate Fetal Monitoring:
Required - Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) or AWHONN Certification:
Required
- Provide nursing care to patients during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including emergency obstetric situations.
- Perform comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments while considering patient age, cultural differences, and special circumstances.
- Develop and implement individualized multidisciplinary care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being, including fetal heart rate, amniotic fluid status, vaginal bleeding, and recognition of obstetric complications.
- Demonstrate clinical competency in managing obstetric emergencies, including crash cesarean sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia.
- Assist with cesarean section procedures by circulating in the operating room as required.
- Manage labor pain using pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions and assist with epidural catheter placement while monitoring maternal and fetal status.
- Educate patients and families throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, and newborn care using appropriate teaching methods.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of nursing assessments, interventions, medications, treatments, procedures, and patient outcomes.
- Perform unit-specific safety and quality assurance activities, including physician order verification, crash cart checks, quality control procedures, and compliance with department standards.
- Supervise and delegate patient care responsibilities to ancillary personnel in accordance with their scope of practice.
