Emergency Department Nurse

Provides nursing care, including triage, treatment and discharge care for the Emergency Department patients, from newborns to geriatrics. This position is represented by CNA.

Job Requirements:

    Work Experience:
  • Associate Degree(A.S.) or equivalent:
    Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing:
    Preferred
  • One year in acute care experience:
    Required
  • Licenses/Certifications:
  • Current RN license in state of practice:
    Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy:
    Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy:
    Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy:
    Required
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC):
    Required within 6 months of hire or transfer

Essential Functions:

  • Completes accurate triage assessment on all patients and notifies the Emergency MD of all abnormal signs, symptoms and vital signs 100% the time.
  • Reviews and completes patient orders in a timely manner.
  • Provides medication side effects teaching to all patients who receive medication in the ED and always includes this teaching in discharge instructions.
  • Recognizes the symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies 100% of the time.
  • Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations.
  • Is competent in all routine nursing skills including: medication administration, intravenous therapy including blood products, care & maintenance of indwelling catheters & drains and, safe use of any medical equipment used in the critical care setting, understands and follows chain of command per policy.
  • Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life threatening emergencies in populations served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, able to make recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation.
