Overview

ER Registered Nurse (ER RN) travel assignment in San Luis Obispo, California. Start date 09/28/2026 for a 13-week contract. Guaranteed 36 hours per week with a pay range of $2,129 to $2,244 per week. Night shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) across a short-term acute care setting handling patients from newborns through geriatrics. This assignment is a travel - temporary position.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department, including triage, treatment, and discharge planning for patients across the age spectrum.
  • Perform timely triage assessments and communicate abnormal signs, symptoms, and vital signs to the ED physician.
  • Review and complete patient orders promptly; teach medication side effects to patients and include this information in discharge instructions.
  • Administer medications, manage IV therapy (including blood products), and care for indwelling catheters and drains; operate and monitor required medical equipment.
  • Interpret ECG rhythms and respond to life-threatening emergencies, applying appropriate monitoring and intervention strategies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Code Blue, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Trauma Activations; participate in rapid response and critical care interventions as needed.
  • Document accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner within the patient record; maintain clear handoffs and contribute to continuity of care.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered education focused on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and post-ED care.
Requirements
  • Education:

    Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required;
    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Licenses:
    Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required;
    Traumatic Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within 6 months of hire; NIHSS required; EPIC experience recent.
  • Experience:

    Minimum two years of recent acute care experience in the field.
  • Additional:
    Ability to work in a high‑acuity emergency department environment; current licensure and credentials as listed.
