Vice President of Sales - Lumber & Building Materials
The Vice President of Sales is a senior leadership role responsible for driving overall revenue growth, sales strategy, and market expansion within the lumber and building materials industry. This position requires a seasoned sales leader with strong industry knowledge and a proven track record of building and managing high-performing sales teams.
The VP of Sales will work closely with executive leadership to align sales initiatives with organizational goals and play a critical role in achieving long‑term growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities Revenue Growth- Set and achieve aggressive sales targets to ensure consistent revenue growth.
- Drive the sales process from lead generation through deal closure, maintaining a strong pipeline.
- Monitor and analyze sales performance metrics to optimize efforts and improve profitability.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Establish short-, mid-, and long-term measurable sales goals.
- Identify new market opportunities and customer segments to expand market share.
- Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity to refine sales approaches.
- Build and develop a strong Outside Sales Representative (OSR) and Inside Sales Representative (ISR) team.
- Create structured onboarding plans for new team members.
- Lead, mentor, and coach sales managers and representatives to drive performance and accountability.
- Design actionable development plans with measurable milestones for OSR and ISR growth.
- Implement ongoing training programs focused on industry knowledge, products, and selling techniques.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and distribution partners.
- Establish scalable, repeatable methods for regular customer engagement.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty by addressing needs and resolving issues promptly.
- Oversee contract negotiations to ensure favorable business terms.
- Partner with purchasing, marketing, operations, and finance teams to ensure alignment on business objectives.
- Represent the sales function in leadership discussions, providing insights on market conditions and sales performance.
- Develop and manage the sales budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
- Deliver regular reports on sales performance, key initiatives, and market trends.
- Use data and analytics to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
- MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of sales leadership experience.
- Minimum of 5 years within the lumber and building materials industry.
- Proven success in driving revenue growth and meeting sales targets.
- Experience leading and developing sales teams across multiple regions.
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strategic mindset with strong execution skills.
- Proficiency in sales tools, analytics platforms, and Excel.
- Willingness to work a 50-hour workweek.
- Weekly travel required.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
