Enforce State and Federal laws and local ordinances governing
Public Workscode compliance; investigate complaints on violations of health, safety, public nuisances, and other City code violations.
Contact complainants and perpetratorsregardingcomplaints to explain code requirements; investigate andresolveproblems involving City or contract solid waste collection crews.
Inform and educate residents, businesses, and agenciesaboutlocal ordinances and regulations.
Documentviolations:researchresponsible party and ownership information, property files, case histories, and assessor information to verify accumulated information as correct and accurate.
Writereports and issue citations withinthescope of authority; process notices of violations; preparecourt case files for review by the City Attorney's Office and testify incourtas necessary.
Collaborate with Local,State,and County agencies on assignments thatcross-jurisdictionaland governmental areas.
Respond to complaints and calls for service;respondto hazardous sites and contamination spills.
Maintain inspection files,writereports,maintaincaselogs,citation explanations,and statistical reports.
Overseespecial eventsandassistswith special community programs and special projects.
Maintain assignedvehiclesand equipment according to Department standards.
Prepare incident reports and summary reports andmaintainrecords and files.
Support the relationship between the City and thepublicbydemonstratingcourteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promote theCity’sgoals, priorities, vision,andvalues andcomply withall City policies and procedures.
Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Code compliance investigation practices, procedures, methods, and techniques.
Legal complaint preparation and filing processes and procedures.
Evidence gathering and preservation methods and techniques.
Solid waste materials, household hazardous waste, and recycling hazardous waste.
Hazardous Site Responder practices, procedures, methods, and techniques.
Principles of record keeping and records management.
Geography, roads, and landmarks ofthe
Cityand surrounding areas.
Interpret and apply statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
Conduct investigations,maintainaccuraterecords, and prepare reports.
Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and handle stressful situations and angry people.
Obtain information from people who may be reluctant to cooperate.
Follow and enforce safety standards.
Interact with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Follow and communicate verbal and written instructions.
Operate a personal computerutilizestandard and specialized software.
Pass a background check for access to the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division database.
High school diploma or GED equivalent AND
Two (2) years’ experience in code and regulation enforcement or public works experience working with City codes and construction standards;
OR
An equivalent combination of education, training,and experience.
All Licenses and Certifications required must be maintained throughout employment.
A valid Arizona driver’s licenseat the of appointment, and
Specific technical training and certifications, including Terminal Operator Certification for access to Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) within 6 months of employment.
- Residency within 25 miles of San Luis and within the US.
Bilingual in Spanish.
Peace Officer certification.
San Luis residency.
Governmental experience.
