Explores decolonization of media and narrative forms, with a focus on film, television, and writing within American Indian and Indigenous contexts. Engages with and analyzes how Native American and Indigenous filmmakers reclaim and reshape their narratives through visual sovereignty. Aims to dismantle colonial viewpoints and promote an understanding of Indigenous self‑determination and representation in media through a variety of filmic genres and media platforms.

• A master’s degree
• A clear commitment to American Indian epistemology, in terms of theory, methodology, and pedagogy as they pertain to the field of American Indian Studies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sovereignty, culture, tribal histories, and federal Indian policy and law.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with California American Indian tribes, communities, organizations and/or other American Indian nations in the United States.
• Employment must be within the State of California (per CSU Out‑of‑State Employment Policy).

• Experience teaching American Indian students at the university level.
• Evidence of developing curriculum in decolonization, tribal sovereignty, resistance, resurgence, and resilience and courses addressing settler colonialism.
• Evidence of working with American Indian tribes and communities.
• Evidence of collaborative work with other departments and programs across disciplines.
• Intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community in teaching and, as applicable, service.

Anticipated hiring salary range: $5,507 – $8,000 per full‑time month, commensurate with degree level and experience.

Salary schedule information for Lecturer – Academic Year Classification (effective 7/1/24):

• Lecturer A – AY: $5,507 – $6,677 per full‑time month
• Lecturer B – AY: $6,221 – $13,224 per full‑time month
