The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part‑time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach SOC 315:
Gender in Society. Salary is commensurate with credential and experience.

Course Description

A consideration of the development of gender identity and gender socialization in a social context; how notions of femininity and masculinity are shaped within various social institutions—family, work, media, education—and how these social definitions change across the life course. Emphasis on how gender relations vary across communities—race and ethnicity, sexuality, age, socioeconomic class, and nationality.

Qualifications
  • A master's degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, employment must be performed within California.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctorate or terminal degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field
  • Higher education experience teaching Sociology and/or Criminology & Justice Studies
  • Preference for applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community.
Salary
  • Anticipated hiring salary range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full‑time month
  • Salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
    • Lecturer A – AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month
    • Lecturer B – AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full‑time month
