CSUSM Athletics is a member of NCAA Division II and our cross country and track & field teams compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference.

Job SummaryThe Coaching Assistant (working title: Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach) will assist the head coach in the day‑to‑day operations of our successful NCAA Division II cross country/track & field programs. Responsibilities include recruiting, practice and competition preparation, scheduling, team travel organization, assisting with athletic scholarships, compliance with NCAA rules, and student‑athlete welfare. The assistant coach will foster academic success through student‑athlete retention and graduation.
Minimum Requirements- A bachelor’s degree
- Three seasons of cross country and/or track & field coaching experience
- No NCAA major violations
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to maintain or obtain a California Driver’s License and campus defensive driving certification
- Ability to maintain or obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification
- Eligibility to work in California per CSU’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy
- A master’s degree
- USATF and/or USTFCCCA coaching certifications
- Knowledge of NCAA compliance rules and regulations
- Intercultural competence and commitment to serving the campus community
This part‑time, 0.50 FTE, 12‑month exempt position is benefits eligible. Salary commensurate with degree level and experience, anticipated hiring range: $6,288 – $7,658 per full‑time month, based on CSU classification salary range for Coaching Assistant (12 mo).
