The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach CHEM 352L:
Protein Biochemistry Laboratory.

Course Description

Introduces the theory and practice of modern protein biochemistry. Covers bacterial transformation, antibiotic selection, heterologous protein expression, cell harvesting, cell lysis, centrifugation, affinity chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography, hydrophobic‑interaction chromatography, dialysis, ultrafiltration, protein precipitation, desalting, bioconjugation, SDS‑PAGE, UREA‑PAGE, densitometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, western blotting, enzyme activity assays, and in‑vitro translation.

Qualifications
  • A Master of Science in Chemistry
  • Experience teaching chemistry at the college level
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry
  • Experience teaching a course in analytical chemistry or instrumental analysis.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
Salary

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,249 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month
