The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach AIS 260: RUMBLE:
American Indians and Rock & Roll.
Deliver lectures, develop syllabi, design assessments, grade assignments, and maintain open communication with students throughout the semester.
Course DescriptionExplores how Native American culture and music influenced “mainstream” American popular music and impacted and influenced Rock ‘n’ Roll. Students will engage in central questions surrounding human diversity such as race, gender, social equity, and how American Indian music has influenced Rock ‘n’ Roll in the U.S. and globally. Special attention is given to how Native American music and culture was both legally suppressed and commercially celebrated throughout history.
Qualifications- A master's degree or equivalent in American Indian Studies or related discipline.
- Knowledge of and experience teaching American Indian Studies courses preferred.
- Higher education teaching experience preferred.
- Preference for applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and commitment to service.
Anticipated hiring salary range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full-time month.
CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month.
CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month.
