Duties and Responsibilities
- As a Director of Learning
- Teaches courses in social studies:
History, Geography, American Government, Political Science and Humanities according to courses of study as adopted by the Board of Education. Conducts other appropriate learning activities within the social science field - Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study
- Develops a balanced social studies program involving factual background material, material on current events, discussion time, and laboratory experiences appropriate to social sciences; other suitable activities designed to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry
- Provides a variety of instructional methods to adapt the curriculum to needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds
- Develops knowledge of the purpose, structure, and operation of the American governmental and economic system, and the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship
- Develops knowledge of political and economic systems of other nations and their influence on personal freedom, education, and living standards of the people in those nations
- Develops knowledge, respect, and understanding of cultural groups throughout the world and emphasizes the need for international cooperation
- Develops an understanding of the contributions of minority racial, religious, and political groups to American culture, and the role of minorities in our present world
- Encourages students to become aware of the complexity and interrelations of local, state, national, and world problems
- Selects book, instructional aids, instructional supplies, resource speakers, field trips, and other social science activities
- Relationships
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District level.
- Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other professionals
- Communicates with parents to discuss the individual student progress
- Teacher should be knowledgeable about affairs and organizations

- Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities provided by the District and in self-selected professional growth activities

California Single Subject Credential authorizing service in Social Science or Authorization to teach Social Science. If you do not currently possess a valid credential, please attach a letter (Does not need to be from a University) to the credential section of your ed-join application that lists your current University, expected graduation date. English Learner Authorization (CLAD, ELA1, BASP, ELAM, ELAS all accepted).
If you do not currently possess a full English Learner Authorization, we can cover you under an Emergency CLAD Permit if offered a position with the District. Letter of Introduction, Resume, Three Letters of Recommendation (Current). This position will sign a Temporary Contract for the 26/27 school year.
