The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach AIS 125:
American Indian Film.

Explores decolonization of media and narrative forms, with a focus on film, television, and writing within American Indian and Indigenous contexts. Engages with and analyzes how Native American and Indigenous filmmakers reclaim and reshape their narratives through visual sovereignty. Aims to dismantle colonial viewpoints and promote an understanding of Indigenous self-determination and representation in media through a variety of filmic genres and media platforms.

• A clear commitment to American Indian epistemology, in terms of theory, methodology, pedagogy as they pertain to the field of American Indian Studies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sovereignty, culture, tribal histories, and federal Indian policy and law.
• Demonstrated experience in working in collaboration with California American Indian tribes, communities, organizations and/or other American Indian nations in the US.
• Experience teaching American Indian students at the university level (preferred).

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience:

• Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full-time month
• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month
• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month

Work must be performed in the State of California; employment outside California is prohibited.
