The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach AIS 110:
Decolonizing California.
Surveys California Indian resistance and resurgence. Provides a place-based approach to anti‑racism and anti‑colonial movements through community‑centered learning and is a foundational overview of contemporary political, social, environmental issues, and representations through California Indian perspectives and knowledge. Subjects can include but are not limited to: tribal citizenship, self‑determination, decolonization, sovereignty, and settler colonialism.
Minimum Qualifications- Master's degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
- Clear commitment to American Indian epistemology, in terms of theory, methodology, pedagogy as they pertain to the field of American Indian Studies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sovereignty, culture, and tribal histories and federal Indian policy and law.
- Demonstrated experience in working in collaboration with California American Indian tribes, communities, organizations and/or other American Indian nations in the US.
- Compliance with California State University's Out-of-State Employment Policy; employment must be performed in California.
- Experience teaching American Indian students at the University level.
- Evidence in developing curriculum in decolonization, tribal sovereignty, resistance, resurgence, and resilience and courses addressing settler colonialism.
- Evidence of working with American Indian tribes and communities.
- Evidence of collaborating with other departments and programs across disciplines.
- Preference for applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience. Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full‑time month.
The salary schedule for the Lecturer
- Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges (effective 7/1/24):
- Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month
- Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full‑time month
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
