Position: Lecturer - GEO 102: Oral Communication (Fall 2026)

Position

Lecturer – Fall 2026 (part‑time) to teach GEO 102 – Oral Communication. Modality: in‑person. Semester:
Fall 2026. College:
College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences. Department:
Communication & Media Studies.

Course Description

Introduction to the form and content of communication. Includes: the linguistic, psychological, and cultural bases of communication; various types of communication ranging from basic speech acts to forms of persuasion; the social and political significance of communication; and how communication operates within and across a wide range of social contexts. Students become actively acquainted with some of the potential proficiencies that may be brought into various social contexts.

Requires active participation in classroom exercises and practicing public speaking.

Responsibilities

Teach GEO 102 in an in‑person setting, develop course materials, deliver lectures, provide feedback, assess student performance, and serve as a student advisor as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in‑person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard
  • Per the California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field
  • Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs
  • Higher education teaching experience with minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to subject area
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
Salary

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 – $8,000 per full‑time month. The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 – $6,677 per full‑time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 – $13,224 per full‑time month
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Application
