The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part‑time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach AIS 235.

Surveys the history, cultural and political dimensions, and impact of children’s and young adult literature, including picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, and young adult novels. Focuses on the importance of works by Indigenous authors and illustrators who support the growth and understanding of tribal sovereignty. Analyses award‑winning, classic, and popular books will create awareness of the pitfalls and possibilities of children’s books and how books can shape peoples’ behaviors and decision‑making as adults, especially for those in positions to influence governmental and industry policy that impact American Indian nations and communities.

Teach the course AIS 235 during Fall 2026 as a part‑time lecturer.

• A master’s degree or equivalent in American Indian Studies or a related discipline.
• Working in the State of California is a condition of employment (per CSU Out‑of‑State Employment Policy).

• Higher education teaching experience.
• Demonstrated intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community in teaching and service.

Anticipated hiring salary range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full‑time month. Salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification:
Lecturer A – AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month;
Lecturer B – AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full‑time month. The hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
